Management and Advisory:
Afzal Jamal Naiyer, MD: Dr. Naiyer is the founder and the driving force behind Star Health. He has cultivated and utilized professional and business contacts in the United States and India to develop the Star Health project. Dr Naiyer is a dedicated professional with more than 15 years of experience in clinical research, Genomic research, clinical trials in both operational and regulatory roles, as well as healthcare service-industry experience. Dr. Naiyer has comprehensive knowledge of the US and Indian healthcare systems, with working experience in healthcare delivery, biomedical science and clinical trial operational and regulatory processes. He has a strong understanding of value drivers in healthcare delivery and biotechnology and is skilled at the ability to synthesize finance, technology and business issues into a structured framework. Dr. Naiyer earned his medical degree at the University of Kashmir. His academic accomplishments include 14 publications in peer reviewed medical journals while working at Cornell and Columbia Medical Centers.
John Sanil Manavalan, MD: Dr. Manavalan has over 15 years experience as an MD and a biomedical scientist, including 3 years of clinical medicine and 12 years of Immunology experience at prestigious organizations. Sanil currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, as an adjunct Professor at New York Institute of Technology and is on the Columbia University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). He has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and has served on the Executive Editorial Board of the Human Immunology Journal, as an Associate Director of a Clinical laboratory, and as a Principal Investigator. He also serves on the advisory board of Harlem Children’s society. Sanil earned his medical degree from University of Maiduguri, Nigeria.
David McCallen, BA: Mr. McCallen has over 25 years experience in management, marketing, branding, business development, strategic planning, capital formation and finance. He was previously the C.E.O. of Milestone Brands, which owns a number of wine and spirits brands, and the Executive Vice President and a Director of a Wall Street public company providing proprietary equity research and registered investment advice. Earlier, he was a product marketing consultant at Bell Atlantic/Verizon’s TELE-TV, the Vice President of Marketing at a NASDAQ-listed technology company, and the Director of Marketing at an early data networking company in Silicon Valley. He began his Wall Street career in the marketing department of EF Hutton before moving to Investment Dealers Digest as a Research Analyst. He then co-founded a successful investor relations firm. He earned his degree from the State University of New York.
Anil Joshi, BDS, MPH: Dr. Joshi has over 25 years of experience in health care and financial services industries. Prior to Star Health, Anil was the CEO of AnalyticsPlus, Inc., a company involved in providing high-end analytical models and software to insurance companies and health plans. Previously, he served as a Senior Managing Director at Zacks Investment Research, where he managed financial content and broker relations and led its quantitative consulting group. Anil was one of the pioneers in identifying the talent of India-based financial analysts for Wall Street research. While at Zacks he started Zacks' Indian subsidiary, which has grown to 250 people. Prior to Zacks, Anil was Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology and Director of the Pre-doctoral Research Program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He taught experimental designs and biostatistics and carried out National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research. Anil has published more than 20 peer-reviewed research papers. He has also been quoted in the financial press, including The Wall Street Journal and Business Week. Anil has a dental degree from Calcutta University, India, and Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; he completed his post-doctoral research fellowship in Medical Informatics at the department of Radiology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and School of Public Health, Harvard University. He is Board Certified in Dental Public Health, one of the nine recognized specialties in dentistry in the United States.

R. Scott Greathead, JD Scott Greathead is a litigation partner at Wiggin & Dana LLP. He has more than 30-years experience as a trial lawyer and appellate advocate in the state and federal courts in New York and elsewhere, on behalf of corporate, institutional and individual clients. His experience includes securities and financial services litigation, products liability, professional malpractice, real estate and construction litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and employment law. From 1984 to 1990, Scott served as the First Assistant Attorney General of New York State under Attorney General Robert Abrams. Scott is a member of the boards of directors of the New York League of Conservation Voters, Human Rights in China, and the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, which he helped to found in 1978. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Scott is also the Chairman and CEO of World Monitors Inc., which provides multinational corporations with consulting and information services that focus on strategies for risk prevention and brand protection in the global economy. Scott is a graduate of Princeton University and the University Of Virginia School Of Law.
Jay Kossman, JD Senior Healthcare Director, Jones Lang LaSalle, NY. Has served as a principal and director of business development for Navigant Consulting and Pricewaterhouse Coopers introducing innovative financial and operational and strategic performance initiatives for major healthcare organizations throughout the United States. With over 20 years experience in healthcare Jay has held several senior management positions with several large healthcare plans including the physician owned MD health plan of Connecticut, the hospital owned Optima health plan of Virginia and MetLife healthcare of Florida. Jay served as president of Healthsell a national consulting firm providing managed care organizations and hospitals with product development and sales and marketing support. He was subsequently recruited by one of his client Executive Health Group, a provider of corporate healthcare services, to direct their national marketing program. Jay cofounder MDNY healthcare and its management company, Nextstage Healthcare assuming strategic roles in network development, marketing, public relations, advertising and sales management. He has also created Nextstage specialties a physician empowering enterprise with over 1000 physicians that was dedicated to developing and managing single specialty, risk bearing disease management networks. Jay is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Raheel Siddiqui, MBA: Currently a senior vice president at Neuberger Berman, where he has finance and strategy experience in biotechnology and finance industries in diverse functions that include mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy, R&D portfolio analysis, corporate finance, business financial planning and analysis, and macro analysis. Earlier he was at Lehman Brothers where he assisted Lehman’s Chief U.S. Equity Strategist in developing portfolio strategy theses: index forecast, asset allocation, sector weightings, and earnings forecasts. Before Lehman he was at the American Strategies and Ventures Corporation where he was responsible for providing advice on biotech related complex strategy issues to clients. He started his career at Monsanto as a Senior Manager of Global Business Finance where he was responsible for providing financial stewardship to a Monsanto’s $600M worldwide oilseeds business unit. Raheel obtained his BS and MS in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (New Delhi) and MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
Tariq Naiyer B.Com, LLB: Mr. Naiyer is a Lawyer by training with extensive political and professional contacts in India. Mr. Naiyer has more than 12 years of experience as a lead investor and founding partner of several businesses in India. He is currently a managing partner with a prestigious Indian law firm where he manages 9 strategic account. He is also serves a member of the Board of Directors of the Nuzhet Durrani Healthcare Foundation.
Prem Khamesra, B.Com, FCA : Ex-CFO, Mirza International Ltd, New Delhi. Prem is a rank holder Chartered Accountant a finance professional and an entrepreneur. In his 30 year career he has practiced as an accountant, founded a mid-sized accounting firm engaged in accounting, auditing, taxation and financial advisory services, founded a midsized light engineering business and headed the finance function of a midsized corporate with an annual turnover in excess of INR 3.5 billion. Prem has a deep understanding of business development, regulatory processes, profound insight into financial dynamics of a business and a wealth of contacts in the Indian financial system.
